One of the most common questions we are asked both before and after a sale is the best method for charging batteries, be it on a powerchair or a mobility scooter. The types of battery and best charging methods can vary, however we find that for the vast majority of users the best advice is this.
- When possible charge your product overnight – (or for as long as possible)
- Do this every time you use your scooter, if you go out for just five minutes, or even five miles, an overnight charge will keep the battery topped up and ready to go.
- Most battery manufacturers recommend a minimum of an 8 hour charge, with a 12 hour charge once or twice a month if possible.
- We do not recommend leaving your batteries on charge for any longer then 24 hours at a time.
- Avoid draining your batteries completely, this is called an “ultra deep discharge”
- Always use the correct charger for your batteries. (Below is a graph for the correct chargers depending on battery size.)
1.5 – 3 amp charger | 10ah – 22ah batteries |
3 – 5amp charger | 35ah – 55ah batteries |
6 – 8amp charger | 75ah – 110ah batteries |
